Resolve, Premiere & Handbrake TESTED: AMD RX 5700 vs Nvidia RTX 3090 – WHY IS THIS SO FAST?!

I wasn’t satisfied with my original test runs of the AMD RX5700 and RX 5700XT and wanted to dig deeper and see how it really stacks up to the Nvidia RTX 3090. And wow… the results are impressive.

In this video I benchmark and test AMD’s new Navi graphics card, the RX 5700 and compare it to Nvidia’s RTX 3090 for projects in Adobe Premiere Pro CC, BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve (16 beta 5) including BlackMagic RAW tests, playback tests, render time tests. I also threw Handbrake into the mix, but that didn’t go so well…

  1. I'm using Ryzen 9 3900x and using premiere, after effects, Photoshop, AVID, Cubase, and Blender. Which would you recommend? I would like to save a few hundred dollars but I also want make sure the GPU can handle that including 3D rendering.

  2. Hopefully I can get an honest answer to this: I have a 1060 6gb and want to upgrade to either the 2060 Super or the 5700 XT, I use premier pro and want to upgrade my editing from 1080 to 4k and still have the budget but still good enough PC that I have to work faster and consume less time rendering. I usually edit videos, dont apply any effects rather than grading and thats it. I upgraded my cpu to Ryzen 5 3600x and 16ram 3200mhz (hopefully upgrade to 32 later this year). But i see only negatives on the AMD card from website and actually found YOUR VIDEOS and amazed me. Is it really better to stick with the RX 5700 XT and skip the 2060 Super for my line of work?

  3. Thank you very much for your reviews. I really appreciate this one. May I ask you if you recommend upgrade my Radeon RX 580 to RX 5700 XT or a equivalent Nvidia GPU instead? I'm using a Ryzen 7 3700X CPU and most of my projects are in Premiere Pro and Lightroom. Thanks

  4. I just got the 5700XT. Video editing is my profession and I cannot use GPU acceleration with this card as it corrupts every JPEG and PNG i try to import into PREMIERE PRO. I reinstalled drivers. Rolled them back. Rolled back adobe version but it seems adobe just cannot communicate properly with this card. So a fore warning to anyone thinking about getting the XT version. Unless im doing something wrong???

  5. With the AMD 5700, I have been having a massive issue with the initial decoding of footage when DaVinci is starting up. Thus causing a massive gap where I can't edit or do anything, as the footage still needs to decode. This issue, from my understanding, has been around since the release of the card. Does anyone have any ideas?

  6. Finally, a video card comparison with professional media and content creation in mind rather than just gaming fps comparisons.
    Thanks for this.

I've always been under the impression that Adobe favored Nvidia and Black Magic favored AMD anyways. I guess it's sorta kinda true? sorta?

  7. So what is the recommendation today? Worth the risk to jump on the RX5700XT? How does that card stack up to the VII? For Resolve and productivity tasks these look very compelling. I saw the video from earlier last year where the VII was able to render your projects that other cards were puking a lung over. So your feedback is very valuable. I am in the process of building a Resolve machine on the x570 board and gen 3 Ryzen. Thanks.

  8. I already have an 5500 XT, and I'm about to get an Ryzen 3950X. I'm going to do x265 encoding so should I let the 3950X do the encoding, or the 5500 XT, or do I need an Quadro P2000 to get the fastest times?

Sorry as this stuff still confuses me, Gary.

ps. I don't game, so that's why I don't have a higher end video card.

  9. I'm looking to build my own editing PC rather than having an editor. I'll work mostly with bmraw and cinema dng through Resolve 16. For smooth 4k Playback, would you still recommend getting a single 5700xt card or should I get 2 of them?
